Abdominal Bracing vs Abdominal hollowing confusion?
I was was always under the impression that at a basic level of core conditioning maybe after a lower back injury, you worked on exercises that targeted the "inner unit," (TVA, Pelvic floor, Multifidus and the Diaphragm) first. Using these muscles to hollow and help create good posture and control of these postural muscles in basic exercises. Then as you go on and progress the exercises to a higher level and more intense exercises such as the plank, then the bracing of the "outer Unit," (Retus Abdominis, internal and external obliqes and back extensors) creates an intra abdominal pressure that helps create a force which will stabilise the spine. Meaning that at this point the inner and outer units are working together and not indepedently of each other, meaning that while bracing the abdominals then the inner core is still hollowed. Am i wrong in thinking this or should i think about doing my University dissertation on the subject?
