Question:

What is a good way to prepare in the last weeks prior to a track meet?

I am running the 400m and 200m I am wondering: What types of food should be eaten and what one should do in the last week or two prior to the competition to increase the chances of performing to their maximum potential ? any answers will be GREATLY appreciated.

For your events you need'll strength and energy(400m).Keep your diet low(if possible none) in fat and rich in protein and carbo.Four days before racing 400m do some train to spend all the carbo supplies and the other two days eat as much as possible food rich, very rich in carbo with none fat.The day before racing 400m eat and some food with protein with none fat.

Mitch,

In my opinion, the post above should NOT be followed and is far too simplistic.

Fat is a KEY component of the diet and should NEVER EVER be taken completely out of the diet. Fat is very important in recovery and to maintain an optimal hormonal enviroment in your body.

There should not be any real need to 'Carbo load' as has been described in the above post. Very little carbohydrate is needed for a single all out 200/400m sprint.

In the days prior you should concentrate on eating a a balaned diet trying not to eat anything that you know does not sit well with you. Even small intolerances can cause you to hold water and therefore increase body weight even if it is only marginally.... we are talking 'maximum' potential and therefore should be avoided.

Some reasearch has looked into the possible role of proteins causing a more 'acidic' enviorment in the body. While this is far from conclusive, it may be worthwhile keeping proteins at a very 'moderate' level prior to race day, possibly slightly lower than is used in the training diet.

Fat is NOT bad, and can make up a large proportion of the diet if the right sources of fat are used and as long as glycogen levels are kept to a decent level.

I hope some of that has helped.

M

If you are training and eating right all season then towards the end of it you should be able to back off a little bit before the major meets.
