Question:
Does astroturf covering on a force plate dampen forces recorded?
I am currently researching the force dampening effects of covering a force plate. In simple terms I am looking to find out does covering a force plate with astro turf affect the force produced. We have done pilot tests and are looking for similar studies. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When using the force plate, you can offset the plate to accomodate for surfaces over the plate. Look for calibration studies as these will have data and info on this.
Generally, the stiffer the surface, the less dampening and vice versa. So if you had the plate under a crash mat, then there will be a huge off set. Astro turf and sports surfaces react differently. We were looking at force plate data with and without mondo athletics surface over it. Very little difference.
I dont have studies to hand but there are plenty out there
