If your trying to build muscle mass, isn't cardio a bad idea? Burning off more calories when your muscles need them to grow. Kind of counterproductive, wouldn't you think? Of course, I do need to get rid of this little pouch around my waist, but I don't think I am willing to give up muscle mass to do it. I've been holding my stomach in for a long time, maybe that could work forever!

A proper diet, proper aerobic training program, no problem. It maintain muscle strength, but if your diet is not balanced enough, then it would be a problem. So make sure if possible to get consultation from a sports nutritionist for an appropriate balanced diet suitable for prolonged exercise.

Aerobic exercise is important for everyone. Esp. if you gain muscle mass. The heart needs to be able to efficiently pump the blood to the body. If the body size increases, so should the heart

Cardio is very counter productive. Whether reducing BF or increasing muscle mass. When performing cardio your body will want to be as light as possible. Whats the best way to be as light as poss??? Lose that heavy muscle it doesnt need it to run and run and run!! For example look at long distance runners then look at sprinters? Which would you rather be? And how much cardio does a sprinter do? Maybe 400 to 800 metres max(not really cardio)!!! Its all about power and if your weight training hard enough your heart will get more than enough of a workout to be strong!!So when it comes to reducing the bodyfat, increasing your muscle mass and resistance training is a must. Forget the cardio. You will lose quality muscle which will lower your BMR reducing the amount of calories you can consume. Does that sound good??? Resistance training will burn plenty of calories done correctly, forcing your body to use your muscle mass. If your body is using its muscle its not gonna get rid of it, it needs it. Its gonna have to find another energy source. THE FAT!!!!! You can still be burning calories up to 72 hours after a weight training session!!!!

combination is key. lifting with cardio is the best way to lose that pouch. eating right wont hurt either.
