Question:
Presentation on muscle strength
Hi i'm dave, im currently in the military and i work as a Remedial Instructor. I've been tasked to present an informal presentation on muscle strength. This will be conducted towards a group of Physios over a period of 40 minutes. Not too basic also not to complexed/complicated. I would like to talk about different types of strength/ training programmes, and relate this to rehabilitation.

For a 40 minute presentation I would begin with the microanatomy of muscle fibers and the sliding filament model. It might be helpful to touch on musculoskeletal interactions, and how movement is achieved. Then I would move on to discuss type 1 and type 2 fibers, and how to train each kind. It might be helpful to include discussion on energy systems and which muscle utilize which system better. I would then follow up with a discussion on specific training techniques (i.e. endurance training techinques for distance runners or strength training for wrestlers etc.)

Hi Dave, as ex-army i would love to help... i've just been looking at my photos of iraq and canada laughing actually.
Anyway. with regards to communicating your job you need to make a link between injury and re-gained fitness. This is best done by showing/explaining how injuries occur i.e intrinsic and extrinsic factors, and how we can work around these. Also show the benefits of exercise and give a few diagrams to demonstrate and qualify what you are saying. I would also go through the phases of rehab that the tissue goes through, remodelling phase etc.
Explain the benefits of the various methods you are going to use and exactly 'why' you will do this. they will only ask if u dont get it in there first.

Hi ya mate cheers for the reply its agreat help. Even though my presentations not for another month it always helps to stay ahead. In reference to your question, rip up without putting to much bulk on i would suggest high intensity cardio ie, fartlek/interval training, with a reduced calorie intake and combine your training with body resistance exercise, heaves/dips/press ups. Concentrating on activation of core muscles.
