Question:
Does increased protein intake depress mood?
In summer I train outdoors for 10k and half-marathon, with some gym work. In winter I tend to train indoors and work on strength and speed, with an occasional outdoor run. I tend to suffer mild depression across the winter. Aware of the many factors that can impact this illness, I try to get outside as much as possible, and maintain the exercise enjoyment. I take a protein mix whilst strength and speed training. I recently noted that protein intake can lower seratonin levels. Is this another factor that I have to take into account, and should I reduce 'pure' protein intake in the winter months?

Supplemental protein should have little effect on your mood in comparison to other major factors such as exercise maintenance, light/sun exposure and a balanced diet. Due to your symptoms being winterly i'm guessing that light exposure is your main issue and as you say you are trying to get out as much as possible.

vitamin d, will help a ton, its the vitamin your body makes when you in the sun. You can take it during the winter to stay healthy and happy

I don't think it is the proteine that affects the mood - maybe it is something else. There is proteines in almost everything you eat - so it can't be !!
