Question:
What are the benefits of boxing as a sports to college students?
Asked by lacruz72 - 4 answers - 15 weeks 6 days ago
I want to know the psychological benefits a college student can get from boxing as a sport. People tend to associate boxing with violence thus it is not offered as a P.E. alternative in colleges and universities around here. I've tried boxing myself and i found it as a very good way of releasing stress and frustrations and at the same time afforded a good work out, i lost weight and gained stamina without fasting myself to death. For these reasons i would like to push for boxing as an alternative P.E. Understanding the psychological benefits it offers on top of the physical benefits would help me sell the idea to the colleges and universities. thank you for your help

you must not really do it right because boxing should really be a calm sport in a way. its not how pro boxers get their frustration out. they only do it on their training but not their actual fight becuase it will mess up their focuz.

I would say like any martial art, it increase your discpline and focus. Other main postives are more self confidence, calmness and the obvious physcial improvement. It can also act as a stress releasor as any sports does really.

Boxing does have the stereotype of a violent sport & only to be participated by the right candidate but this stereotype can be completely blown out of the water when you look at all the benefits.

I do boxing training with clients ranging from ages 14- 70! Obviously alot has to be taken into account in terms of intensity but from my experience people find it a fantastic workout improving their fitness, boxing skills, cofidence is a biggie and I would say the biggest factor is not only is it hard but its enjoyable which makes working hard easier.(alot easier than pounding the treadmill for long periods!)Goodluck!
