caloric intake for a long distance runner(5000M$10000m)

I am a university student sports science,i'm hoping to work with long distance runners during my industrial internship&most especially on the area of nutrition.I mean the perseason,inseason &the offseason

The calories needed varies by the average person; however, the best way to test it is to experiment. See what calories work the best. For me, 4000 works great.
