Question:

Circuit Training Class

I am due to take my first circuit training class. I usually work on a one-to-one or two-to-one basis, so a class of 20 people is going to be a bit different for me! Nothing sports specific, just general fitness - aerobic, resistance, core work.

Please could someone give me a little help - how should I structure the class?

How do I make sure I'm at all the different stations at the same time to ensure techniques are good (do I provide cards?)

How many stations should there be?

Do I get people to pair up?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated!

Many thanks,

Heather

You could always have each person at a station, or 2-2 at a station. From there work time based, 30seconds to 1 minute and change station.

Depending on the gender and activity levels, you could say like bicep curls one end, pushups, chest press, shoulder press, dips, pull-ups, squats.

Also, make sure that the needs of the clients are being fulfilled. If not, hand out cards for those who aren't completely satisfied.

Mind you, I'm still young in the industry, but that's what I'd do.

Fitbitz hello

I have run many a circuit and am very happy at the feedback i get so Im guessing i am doing it right... plus i was a PTI in the army and people tend to love the military themes!!! hint.

dead easy

introduce yourself, have an ice breaker to take the attention off yourself, i get them to say their name and give an in teresting fact about them... i once had a lad who had had a top 10 song in summit like 14 countries!!!! hahaha.

do that for 5 mins, warm them up for 5-8 mins.

get them stood by the stations in pairs jogging on the spot, anyone who stops or talks gets push ups!! DEMONSTRATE the exercises. and have cards with just the exercise names on.

I have anything from 9 - 15 exercises, sometimes with an active reccovery in the middle - steps, dumbbell punches, squats... anything you want.

I normally start with 30 or 40 seconds per station, so if you have 10 exercises, then it will take 20 minutes as you have the recovery in between as well :)

then 2 mins rest and two more sets, 25 and 15 seconds each or whatever u choose.

straight after the 3rd, they get the water and walk around for a minute or so before stretching off and going home.

Seriously, be confident and put the ball in their court.
