Not a good idea as you are meant to be passing on your knowledge through the teaching process and this is not really going to be happening.

Try getting on a basic course provided by most governing bodies.

I don't see why not. At lower levels of competition (elementary, jr. high, middle school) you can be a great coach to the players. As long as you can find yourself a mentor or learn as much about the sport as you can, you can be a great motivator, teacher, coach, role model, etc to the players.

If you dont have as a goal to take some kind of a championship, but you are in low levels competition then give it a try, read some books about that event, discuss with some coaches who have experince as a players and as coaches about philosofy tactic and technical isues, and there you are ready...

Reverse the question and ask yourself if people who have played a sport can coach it? The are many examples of unsuccessful coaches who have been outstanding players. There is an assumption in some sports that you can only coach if you have played it to a certain level. However coaching is an art and if you develop coaching skills the challenge is to apply them in any field of activity. The books of Tim Galwey could help you understand the issue.
