first up, a six pack does not equal core strength / stability, anyone can get a six pack if they lose enough body fat.theres so many exercises for the core it really depends where you are now, get down the gym and find a good trainer to give you some tips.

monkian is right, you need to be focusing on your proprioceptive core muscles, otherwise known as your local stabilizers. These stabilizers help maintain proper form and body function during high levels of exhaustive activites. some examples of these muscles are your transverse abdominis, multifidus, psoas group, rotatores, and semispinalis. All these muscles need to be activated before any proper activation of your global stabilizers or "six pack", is completely effective.

Remember, when training these muscle groups, you should start with simple activities that train your neuromuscular control, meaning you learn to poperly activate the local stabilizers in an anticipatory fasion prior to your movements. Once you have developed your neuromuscular control, move on to more advanced techniques which will cause fatigue in these muscles. always remember to keep proper form and muscle activation.

some things you can do is start with a simple body bridge and then progress to more involved techniques which utilize your extremeties, again, keeping good form.

local stabilizers are really what you use in every day activities along with the endurance activities invovled with basketball and football. but like monkian said, find a trainer and get some tips for core strengthening and stability.

I'm with the two others who replied. The image of a six pack on magazines doesn't usually include the fact that those people have very low body fat and, in some cases, have dehydrated themselves prior to the photo shot. Get professional advice and it will save a lot of unnecessary pain and hard work later.

i read that all you need to do is loose body fat so eat less calories and hop on the tread mill with the setting to lose weight. thats all there is to it.

i am training for a marathon and i never had a six pack and now that i have lost some body fat its starting to show through.

I got to a point where running (long distance) and diet only went so far. I have been reducing carbs and upping protein whilst doing lots of hard interval sessions and the results are more promosing...would think that it is all down to the individual though.

Doing lots of core stability exercises such as the plank and side plank will give you the strength +6pack without dehydrating yourself.
