I would suggest that, to begin with, you find the nearest quality spinning class. A good spinning class will help develop your stamina so that when you do start seriously training on the road, you will be better prepared.

It helps to quantify your goals.

So, what does "speed and endurance" mean, to you?

Is it "keep up with the local Saturday club ride for 30 miles" or "ride a 10k time trial in under 20 minutes" ?

It's helpful to have a cyclecomputer / speedometer. A basic low-end model will do, under $20 US. I only look at current speed, distance, and time. It can be helpful to get a pulse meter, but not at all necessary.

So for example I will measure a course that's a few K per lap, low traffic/safe, and time myself for roughly 20 minute time trials. That sets a benchmark for time/distance and also is a very good workout.

There are LOTS of good advice sources; check Amazon or your local bookstore. Joe Friel is probably the most widely followed author on this topic, for good reason.

And, join a local club. Great folks and usually good advice from more experienced riders.

Enjoy!
