Question:
Taking it Easy
Hi this is my first post on this forum so forgive me if this is a regularly answered question. I'm 28, I used to be a keen cyclist about 6 years ago but slowly gave it up as I hadn't the time and worked too far away to cycle to work, I'm not the slim jim I used to be either but now I have a new job much closer to home (about 4 miles away) and am planning on buying a new bike and cycling to work, but because I haven't exercised like this for about 6 years, I don't really want to cycle to work and keel over. Have you any tips on how I might go about introducing myself to cycling again?

If you have a local gym try there first. THey should have a cycle machine of some sort. If you know how far work is, try this same distance in the gym, try a hill workout on the machine to up the intensity. Once you feel comfy in the gym, take it outside. Try seting of to work earlier than you might so as to compensate for lack of training in the beginning to monitor your performance. Enjoy. THe best way of getting in the saddle again is to cycle again, but gradually build up the intensity and your fitness will follow. Rgds

Try it first see how long it will take you, just take it really steady to start with and build up. Try not to get too annoyed with the traffic, just get out on your bike when you can and you will gradually build up fitness. maybe try some loger rides once you have more fitness as these will help boost your stamina.
