Of course, the artical on mountaineering is less than relevant, however there is a significant cross over between middle and long distance running and the walk events

Is not too bad (given the obvious bias), however I would emphasise the need for strength and conditioning to support the essential development of "efficiency" as part of the race walking gait. In particular core strength, both to maintain posture and drive the rotational component of the pelvis are important
