Fracture dislocation of ankle recovery time?
Hey, I dislocated my ankle, fractured my fibula and tore deltoid/medial ligaments back on 16th Sept playing football. Stayed in hosp and had my op on 21st Sept - ORIF ( metal plate on fib) and ligaments repaired. Got my cast off 8th Nov and left hosp on crutches with normal shoe on, started physio on 16th and had it once a week since. Still on crutches and dont really feel like my physio is doing much. Does anyone know what I should be doing, how often, when ill be off crutches or just using 1? Will i get back to playing sports etc? At the moment the main pain is on the inside of ankle and round back of lower leg feels very tight. Also should i be wearing a support?

In my opinion you should be in some sort of of aircast walker whilst the ankle has a chance to heal. With these on you are still able to walk with the aid of crutches initially and then slowly progress to just walking the the aircast walker on. Usually the aircast walkers a prescribed for 8-12 weeks depending on the surgery and specifics of your injury and complcations etc.
Rehab will play a crucial part and initially there may not be a lot that the physio can do because of restrictions whilst the bone and ligaments heal, but you should certainly be off of crutches by now and be doing an extensive rehabilitation program.
I think a second opinion from another physio may be the way to go.
All the best.
