Question:

How do you train for a second marathon soon after running one?

I ran the London Marathon two weeks ago and am going to run Edinburgh on May 25th in 4 weeks.I have been doing some short runs, swimming and doing some spin classes. Do I need to do any long runs and when. I ran London in 3 51.I am a 55 year old woman.

I'm doing the same 4 weeks between. I guess depends on how you felt after the London effort and how many miles a week you train and whether you do a regular long run per week.
1st week:
I rested for 2 days, did an easy 3miles am and then pm on the 3rd day. Rested 4th then a tempo run, rested 5th then 2 mile longer tempo, rested 6th.
2nd week:
slow hill workout for 1 1/2hr rested 2 days and a medium long run, then easy run 50min, then speed work on the track (10k) and long run (medium/hard) effort.
3rd week:
rest day, then aerobic with strides for leg turn over, then easy run 50 min, then track work (1 mile reps) followed by easy aerobic, then easy run 40min, rest day and medium long run medium effort.
4th week:
rest and recovery, regular taper with a couple pace miles on Wednesday and easy running and rest to race day.
