Question:

How should i train and what do i have to do?

Im doing a 1/10 IRON MAN on the 12 April 08 in South Africa, its 380km swim, 18 km Cycle and 4.2 km run,it just seems so hard for me, my boyfriend has done 5 IRON MAN'S going on the 6th. I would like to have a training program, i dont know what to do everytime when i get to the swimming pool or at the gym how many km should i do or what. Ive always done sport like hockey, tennis and netbal. I want to start doing triathlons i also would like to do a IRON MAN one day when im ready. Thanks

first of all - its 380m swim not 380km lol... you need to do 3 brick sessions each week - 2 for bike - run and 1 for swim - bike to get used to the jelly legs feeling... it depends on your lifestyle and experience - jobs and also are you great at swimming and not so good at running? etc but i suggest one interval session for each sport and one longer endurance based session for each - to reassure yourself that you can make the distance - you should ask your boyfriend he will know. Also try to do 1 or 2 practice triathlons before the event so u know u can do it.

I suggest Mon - BR long bike short run Tues - swim (long) Wed - day off Thurs - SB interval swim long bike Fri - BR interval bike short run Sat - long run Sun - long ride

Start at distances you are comfortable with and build up by 10% on each distance each week (to avoid injury) and build up to a distance that is longer than the race distance

If you do that you should be fine... good luck with it - if u have any more questions feel free to ask. Let me know how u go (if im allowed to know)

also, when you can go to the gym concentrate on core strength exercises and injury prevention exercises
