Hi was wondering when you thought you should give training a miss, is it all right to train with the cold. I was told as long as the infection is not in your chest then go a head and train. cheers

Depending on the severity of your cold and the associated symptoms, light exercise may boost immune function while heavy exercise may compromise it.

Another factor to consider is spreading the germs. If you are potentially contagious, it may be wise to avoid giving your cold to someone else, so instead of going to the gym, you could switch things up and go for a power walk outside.

Hope that helps.

Training whilst being sick is a very touch-and-go matter. Coming back to what dcheng said, "light exercise may boost immune function while heavy exercise may compromise it", what would be regarded as light training and heavy training?

As far as I understand, and have practiced accordingly, keeping a heart rate NO higher than 110bpm should allow for maintenance training (only light cardio as warm-up and weight training from there).

Please also make sure your nutrition is up to scratch! Vitamins, proteins, carbs, fats and Amino acid intakes should be monitored. When sick, dcheng may be able to correct me, you want to consume about 2000mg vitamin C daily and vitamin B6 is also important, not sure about the dosage.

Doing light exercises will help you fight off an infection.
