Question:
Is it unhealthy to lose 8 lbs in 8 days maintaining a healthy diet ?
Asked by mitch232 - 5 answers - 2 weeks 6 days ago
I have a track meet in about 8 days is it possible for me to lose 8lbs in this amount of time and would it be healthy as long as I still maintain a healthy diet ? ie. eat clean like veg. fruits small amounts of dairy products and chicken/turkey/eggs for protein. (I am 16) I feel I am a little over weight to race (I am 5'6" 149lbs) I feel comfortable at about 138lbs. Any helpful input would be greatly appreciated
Thanks Mitch

First off all you should tell us what event you r going to participate, secondly losing 8 lbs=4 kg in 8 days, now that something not normal, and in most cases people who have lose 8 lbs in 8 days the only thing they lose was a big amount of water and a little solid weight.

Absolutley agree - it is not healthy to lose large amounts of weight in a short time. You'll be mainly losing water, and in order to lose this weight it would be difficult to eat a "healthy" diet, and you would probably end up losing mainly muscle (as your body will break this down to keep up with its needs, and will not break down fat) which will not help you performance / energy wise with your event.
Submitted 2 weeks 3 days ago by fitbiztrainingIt sounds like you're pretty fit, so I'd imagine your body fat % is OK, if a little on the low side, (maybe get someone to take it for you?) and as you do a lot of training you are likely to have a high amount of muscle on your body. Muscle weighs 3 times more than fat, so weight in itself is not a reliable indicator or health, so I'd suggest that you don't rely on it... Keep to a sensible training program, and eat a healthy diet, and enough of it, and your body will sort itself out - don't get obsessed with what the scales say!
Best wishes,

Submitted 2 weeks 3 days ago by mitch232I am eating approx. every 3hours small amounts of food ie. 2 ounces of veg. or a piece of fruit and I am eating protein 3 times a day (at meals)having starch in two of these meals and veg. also at two meal and 2 glasses of skim milk everyday for dairy. I have currently lost about 4.5 pounds in 4 days eating like this I have also keep my water intake at the same level (about 48ozs per day).
