Question:

Is it time for a rest?

I have been training twice a day 5 days a week alternating from core/bodyweight routines and running (mix of track and long) in preperation for a 1/2 marathon April 12th. I have been training hard for about 2 months with excellent improvments in core functionality and cardio fitness. Lately i have experienced a pain in my left knee cap when i start running/sprinting but subsides after about 10 mins, i have also been feeling as if i am taking a step back rather than improving but trying to keep my training intense all the same. am i overtraining or need a short break (although i hate taking breaks)???????

What have you been doing before this (e.g. throughout most of your life)? If you didn’t do much before these 2 months then you could well be overtraining.

Something to think about. Neuromuscular exercise (e.g. using your central nervous system, motor units etc) takes much longer to recover than the fibres etc of the muscles themselves.

I train daily anyway. but since i stepped it up a gear for the half marathon and started switching from normal gym exercises i.e. bench press, barbell curle etc.. to core functionality and higher rep training for about 2 months, this is when all the niggles and aches come up. I have taken this week off training altogether and wll hit the track again on monday.
