What are the best supplements for distance running?
i have a big 10mile fell race in 3.5 weeks and am training hard and improving all the time but am looking for that extra edge over my opponents, target time of sub 1hr 20, time last year, 1hr 30.

Yep,carbs is the way to go.I understand that elite distance runners like the Kenyans have about 65-70%carbs in the diet as a minimum....but they also keep away from refined carbs/high sugar percentage foods as well.

Yes carbs are very importance. But you need to remember the role of the other key nutrients like protein, B vitamins and fluids. Protein and carbs can be used together after training to aid recovery. Without B vits the body can not breakdown carbs. Fluids are key to peak performance. The best advice I can give is to eat a balanced diet that conains a wide range of foods but is high in carbs.

I wouldn't class Carbohydrates as a supplement....
While they are undeniably very important they are a macro-nutrient which if used correctly can give a competitive advantage.
In terms of supplements, one you might consider looking into is caffeine. A whole host of research on this supplement and its ergogenic effects through the delay of fatigue.
