Question:
Can children under 18 take glucosamine chrondroitin?
Asked by donnacumberbatch - 3 answers - 4 weeks 4 days ago
My 14 year old daughter swims competitively and has a shoulder injury. Her physio has recommended that she takes vitamin c, omega 111 and glucosamine chrondroitin to aid in remedy and future prevention. I notice that the label for glucosamine states that it should not be given to children under 18 years. Please advise.

Yes, I took glucosamine for a swimming shoulder injury when I was 15 years old(Bicepital tendonitis) and I believe it significantly helped in my recovery. Of course, the most important thing really is to rest the shoulder and perform any stretching or strengthening exercises if they were advised.

there is not enough evidence for the safe use of glucosamine with children. As glucosamin is often used in conjuction with MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) it has been highlighted to increase the risk of autism in children.

Rest, correct exercise and a sensible return to activities is the best way to go

Define "shoulder" injury for me.
Is it the glenoid-humeral joint or the shoulder girdle? Theres a big difference in the joints. Please clarify it
