Hi,

by positive and negative training I think you may be reffering to the different muscle contractions. Positive would relate to the concentric muscle action where the muscle is shortening under contraction. The negative would refer to the eccentric muscle action where the muscle is lengthening under contraction. Also remember there is an isometric contraction (pause) with no change in muscle length and therefore no movement.

For example if i am training someone I will also specify how long I want them to take in each stage of the muscle contraction spectrum. This is reffered to as time under tension. I spend 3 seconds lowering the weight, 0 seconds on the isometric pause and 1 second lifting. The time under tension would depend on the persons goal and stage of training they were in.
