Question:

Plyometric training - how long?

In an off season period, along with strength & conditioning and general aerobic work, what would be a good length plyometric session to add in once or twice a week to training for a 16 yr old athlete? Or should you add 10 mins at the end of each session? Any feedback would be appreciated.

It is not about the time spent doing plyometrics but the ground contacts made. Search the www.exrx.net and this site as it will give you some good advice on quality and quantity.

Plyometrics at the start of a session is a must after a comprehencive warm up and stretch
(dynamic stretching). All three are a must as plyometrcis are a great way to get a serious injury quickly due to the nature of the movements.

You might also seek guidenace from a coach in relation to guidance during a plyo session in order to decrease the injury risks, as well as maitaining proper form and quality of the session.
