Question:

Sharp pain in the lower right leg - sural nerve netrapment?

I read the article by mark alexander http://www.sportsinjurybulletin.com/archive/lower-limb-strains
and it described more or less what I have been feeling.
I played soccer intensively over 15 yrs ago from 1é yrs of age well into my 20s.
These past 20 yrs I have been jogging, around 3 hours (two sessions of an hour and a half) at a relaxed pace. I used to do 10 kms and 20 kms but not any more. Iam 50. These past few days I have had a sharp chronic pain in the back of my lower leg for about 5-10 seconds at a time. It seems to be the sural nerve from what I have read about. I used to have it once a day but these past few days have felt it several times a day, a few times during jogging and even in my sleep . . . You mention a self-rubbing remedy in the article without more details. What exactly does it entail - - this is in order to see if it will suffice - - - I have mentioned it to the doctor who seems to think there is not much that can be done if it is a nerve pain . . . ??? Thanks
