Question:
Clicking Shoulders!
I have a client with a clicking shoulder. She never feels any pain in it. It happens mainly when performing a wide grip bent over row, so shoulder is extending... Click seems to happen when she is almost at full extension.
If I feel the shoulder while it is clicking it feels like a muscle moving over a bone.
Any ideas as to what this is, what we might be doing that is causing it (as it's new since we started training together) and what we can do to resolve it would be very gratefully appreciated.
Many thanks.

Hey Heather,
There are a couple of different things that come to my mind with regards to painless clicking of the shoulder. In the absence of trauma, and given that the clicking has started with the training i would say the clicking is due to rotator cuff dysfunction(tight subscap, infraspinatus), weak scapula stabilisers(Rhomboids) or the patient has hypermobility of the shoulder/scapula in question. I would check the scapula humeral rhythm for both shoulders, see if there is any asymmetry. If weak scapula stabilisers or hypermobility is the underlying cause then your training will take care of the problem. If it is a rotator cuff dysfunction then your client may need treatment to remove the adhesions in any of the muscles.
Kind Regards
