Question:
I injured my shoulder 10 weeks ago...more than a strain?
I injured my shoulder 10 weeks ago, reaching backward to pull open a stuck door. I didn't go to the doctor right away, because it seemed just sore/strained.
But now, after 10 weeks, even though I have been doing light, rehabilitative type exercises, it is very weak and painful on the top of the shoulder. I had a frozen shoulder some years ago, so I was careful to keep this one flexible, and it is not frozen.
Sometimes I can't even lift my arm if it is in the "chicken wing" position-but other times I can, although with trouble. It is also very painful in "prayer" position hands in front of chest. I am doing static stretches to strengthen it.
What has probably happened to it? I thought it was just a strain..What should I be doing now for it?

Maybe go to a athletic trainer and see what they think. Try doing some internal and external rotations to help strengthen your rotator cuff.

Look for someone with training in The Berry Method. Mr Berry worked successfully on Kofax and Drysdale. One of his apprentices was called in to work on the SF 49er Quarterback after shoulder surgery...he then had his best year!!!

Dont just look at the site of pain as the indicator. Make sure you rally stretch your chest (PEC major and Minor) muscle as these muscles will pull your shouler anterior thus causing a decreased joint space and rounded shoudlers. Also, your lats need to be stretched same idea as above, these 2 muscels are powerful internal rotators ofthe shoulder. Strengthen your scapular stabilizers esp. the rhomboids in order to pull the scapula back to midline.

Have an ART (active Realease technique) practioner take a look at it for you.
good luck

You may need to rest the shoulder to let it heal as it sounds like you've maybe pushed it a bit too hard. Use thermal therapy clothes to improve circulation & maintain joint mobility without the strain. The best ones my physiotherapist recommended were the ones that I got from http://www.thermomedic.com It's also probably worth going to a physiotherapist to get a correct diagnosis for your problem since it's along time to be in pain.
