Question:

Specific swimming sets to increase lactate threshold.

I have 1500 meters swimmer who needs to go under 18 min. He is currently 18:30. He starts at a good pace 1:08 and after 500 mts goes to 1:14. Any succesful sets you have worked with?

The best way to decrease die off is to do descending sets. That way you get used to working harder further into it. e.g.
3x300 descend 3:50 to 3:30
3x200 descend 2:25 to 2:15
3x100 descend 1:15 to 1:05

As these get easier, cut the interval.
