Question:

I want to get faster at the 200m sprint in about 2-3 weeks?

I am running at the Prince of Wales Stadium on the 24th June, my PB last year was about 29. This year it is at 30.69! Is there anything I could eat to get faster? I have access to a gym, playing fields, a grass track and a swimming pool.

Hi there,

Have you changed your training program at all over the last year?

Sometimes if your body gets used to what it is doing, you plateau, then start to regress.

I'd recommend lots of interval training / fartlek, plus lots of plyometric training for your lower body (squat jumps, lunge jumps (jump from one leading leg to the other))

Good luck!

Best wishes,

Heather

What has your training been like? What is your current fitness level?

With such a short amount of time to prepare, you can only physically improve power/speed a minimal amount in a few weeks.

However, it doesn't mean you can't become a more efficient runner. The best way for you to make significant gains in such a short time is to work on your running form. Even small changes in technique can make a big difference on the track. My advise to you is to find somebody that knows a thing or two about sprinting and ask them to evaluate your running form, as well as your starts.

Combine technique work with track workouts (intervals, short fartleks, etc.) 5-6 days per week, and make sure the day before the meet that all you do is warm up and go through basic sprint drills. This will help you be fresh the next day for your meet!

Hope this helps!
