Question:

Sprint faster

I need to be able to sprint 50 meters very quickly. My sport being paintball, i have to have my head down keeping a low profile. I want to know what training i can do to build up my speed in both a short space of time and long term.

Thanks people

I don't know if i would class paintball as a sport but anyway this is what you need to do.

You need to concentrate on anaerobic exercise ie exercise that doesn't use oxygen. So quick powerful spirts of energy this could involve squating a heavy weight in a gym, basically you need to build up the muscles in your legs to give you that extra strength.

Plus before you start make sure you have you energy levels topped up before you start ie have an energy drink or eat a banana, don't eat anything to big within an hour of exercises or you will end up getting a stitch.

good luck

I think the best sprinting exercise is doing some squats. It is always a winner

I disagree regarding the exclusive use of squats. It's true that heavy squatting will build the muscle and Type IIb muscle fibers required for speed, and is an excellent idea, but the whole package requires plyometrics to actually allow your body to 'pull off' the movement. Suicides, jump squats, and explosive lunges are all good ideas.

I think to train by tieing yourself to a tyre because it lags you, you are driven by determination to run faster when you are running without it you run faster....hope this helps ;)

Afew helpful hints already but you should talk to a "good" track-sprinting coach--learn how to increase maximum speed-hint all out short runs with good form and full recovery before repeating.
