What are good times for the 800m and the 400m for a 13 yr old?
I am 13 yrs old and in 8th grade. I just started running last yr in 7th grade. I ran a 2 mile cross country meet in 11:26 and won district champ. I'm not even in cross country, how funny is that? This summer I went to run in some races as an unattached runner, I kept qualifing, so I kept going. I was 3rd in State in the 800m with a time of 2:06 by far my fastest 800m time. I don't know where it came from. I just do better when there is someone running next next to me. I also ran the 400m in a 54:16, but my best 400m run is a 52:00 flat. I need to know what other 13 year old boys are runnunig, and if I should try and step it up a notch and train. I never trained for any of the races I ran. I just do better when there is someone fast next to me. It makes me want to keep up and shoot past. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I want to start taking this running serious. THANX

Well at the rate you're running thats very fast and i would suggest you take up training to maximize your running ability as you seem to have a natural talent.
You're kidding you run those times?? That's competitive at age 16 through 19. Definitely with proper training you could well be an Olympic gold medalist. General rule, 400m athletes, who perform well and run 'neatly', should also be 800m athletes as the 800 is a virtual sprint right through. Well done on those times man, I wish I could have you as one of my athletes! :D
Hi ducky101. THose are exceptional times. COngratulations. You should be looking to achieve around 62 seconds. For 800m you should be looking to get around 2:15. Good luck with improving your running times.

Correction -400m time being 52s. Can improve to 48 with training.
-800 time being 2m06s. Can improve to somewhere between 1m50s-1m56s with training. Definitely National champion 400m and 800m if you can reach those times. You could even look at participating in the 2012 Olympics in my opinion (for the 800m).
Those times are amazing. My county championships under 15 800m race in 2008 was won in 2m12 or so. Would rank you very high in the UK and that's without training!
hey man I ran the 800m like 2:06 and am in 8th grade. and i used to run 400m 54.12 than 52 flat. so man tell me what you do man and u good to and one day we should run toghter.
