Question:

What do you think of the Peak Performance Premium area? (!)

As the main provider of information in this area, I'd like to find out what you think about the videos and the articles in particular. My aim is to provide usable and interesting information in an easy to understand format. I enjoy getting the information together - look out for interviews with top coaches Frank Dick and Tudor Bompa and swimmer Grant Hackett in the next few weeks.

In all honesty sometimes I find it a bit cumbersome to use, but I know that there's some great info lurking around in here and this makes it a bit frustrating.

Thanks for your comments. I actually share some of your views and have been talking to the web guys to improve accessibility. Improvements have been made in terms or new links, special features has now become articles for example. We also want to make the video area easier to navigate.

I agree that there is some great stuff there but I just wish you could click on subscribers area and go straight to it instead of having to click on another link to get there.

Good though.

Am really loving the format, easy to find what I want and really useful in my sports science degree. As a Taekwondo instructor, I would really like to see some martial arts related items.

Thanks for your comments, I'll look into some martial arts information and articles. It was always the aim with the majority of articles in the area to make them as easy to understand and as practical as possible (aka with simple sports science).

Martial arts specific articles would be great. If sport-specific training if more effective than general conditioning, then certainly interval training lends itself to the needs of the martial athlete.

Jim,

Thanks for your comments.

I wrote an article on peridodisation for PP a while a go and discovered some models applicable to martial arts. And the use of specific measures of performance, these involved specific physiological responses to martial arts training (I think it was Judo). This enabled specific preparation to be systematically planned. Interval training was key.

Although the tests required physiological testing you could probably come up with some more everyday ones of your own - number of kicks able to be performed in 15 seconds for example.

General training is not going to (obviously) directly improve performance. To get the greatest results you need to develop a 'sports body' that creates power, has the correct flexibility and speed, for example, for your sport. A sprinter would get little benefit from endurance running,

Not being a martial arts expert makes it difficult for me to give further comment. However, a boxing coach that I know always brings the core of his training back to the fight. So circuits exercises and agility drills, sprints and weights are performed over 'rounds' 2 - 4 min usually. This makes for very specific interval training.
