Question:

what workout would be best for someone starting boxing for fitness?

I have just taken a boxing fitness certificate and would like advice on training.

He or she should star with aerobics activities, specially running four times a week for 40 minutes, also improving his strength two or three days using circuit trainning with middle loads.

Hi,

if you are boxing for fitness, the boxing itself should help. It can be beneficial to build up an aerobic base level of conditioning initially, certainly with someone who is just starting to exercise for the first time - this can be achieved through boxing practice.

One can learn the fundamental skills and repeat them many times (for example jab, cross combination), build into this some simple footwork and movement patterns and you repeat as required.

Ultimately you could progress to padwork drills, and build in specific circuits. Boxing is not just an aerobic activity, in fact it is more reliant on other energy sources and ultimately the training should reflect this. Training in a more anerobic nature will still result in aerobic benefits, and it takes less training time to acheive these gains...it depends if your client is ready for that level. I have explained more here with an example relating to boxing... www.bridgefit.co.uk/strength-training-benefits.htm
