Question:

Who or what are elite athletes ??

I am interested in strength and conditioning and may get accredited while at university. However while researching I have come across several sources that say employment will only come after extensive experience working with 'elite' athletes. This is a fair point, but what constitutes a sports performer being 'elite' ???? is it merely someone who gets paid ?? in other words i could work with Accrington Stanley... yeah exactly "who are they?" ha ha. Can anyone define "elite athlete" for me please. Thanks

People who discovered their personal weak links and worked on them accordingly looking for performance in something. Elite would mean "each specialized individual". Therefore you could work with Accrington Stanley of course, when you know a lot about this athlete.
For the same sporting purpose, strength and conditioning is very different for each individual, elite or not, I think.
Tks for discussion about.

I'm not sure I buy the premise. The most successful trainer I know doesn't train elite athletes. She wouldn't turn them away, but that is not who she markets to. She mostly does beginning to midlevel triathletes. They are the ones who need the most help, and are most likely to hurt themselves without it. She runs "boot camps" and clinics all year. She also does a lot of skills development classes. I know one thing she did to get going was to hold a series of short free intro lectures at a recreational store here that is know for those sort of things.

Just for an idea of what she gets - last Sunday I saw at least 25 or 30 people in her swim clinic at $15 a piece (she does 2 on Sundays, the second usually has more people). They ranged from need to learn in order to complete a triathlon to ones who could slowly complete a few laps. Most of these people also come for private sessions. She also does running clinics, biking clinics and transition clinics. All of them fill up. This is the group with the most disposable income, and are willing to spend some to get better. They are also the ones who understand that they need help, and will really follow what you teach them.

Thats not actually what i am after... i just want to know, hypothetically if you looked up the definition of "elite athlete", what would it be ???

is it someone who performs at only the top level, or someone who is paid to perform or what ???

this is so i can target someone, or a team for some work experience.

In that case I would say US NCAA or National level competition athletes would count. That is where most PT and kinesiology students do their internships here. A few work with professional teams, but not many due to the conflict with school and their travel schedules. I also know several who did internships with the ballet company. Around here the college teams have some of the most experienced trainers, and they are willing to work with students and then write letters for them afterwards. Over there I would think that the top level nonprofessional soccer league would count, as well as any team (track, swimming etc) with people competing at nationals or trials.

Elite athletes are all around athletes that are physically, mentally strong and are well paid of course.

Surely elite implies a high standard of performance approaching national level. I would hesitate to call a county athletics champion, or an Accrington Stanley defender elite since neither is necessarily performing to national level, while each may be far superior to the average performer.
Payment for performance will vary from sport to sport, and cannot be used as a criterion, since some sports have a higher profile than others.

Depends on the sport, but usually elite means the best of the best. In football, this would mean probably premiership or international class.

For UKSCA accreditation though, you can use amateur athletes.

I don't think its defined by how much u get paid. How much u put in???? Maybe. To be elite uve got to be recognised in ur sport as one of the best. Elite athletes are those who take part in world championships, world cups and olympic games. Nt to sure if accrington stanley come in to tat bracket. Why nt c if the british olympic council cn help pt u in touch wit someone.

elite athletes are the ones sports people who push through pain and give it their all! they are the ones at the top, the best, the most willing, not nessecarily paid! i have been considered an elite athlete in my sport a million times! im a 15 yr old girl who doesnt get paid a cent! basically, its the ones who last the longest, go the hardest, dont give up etc.! all in all they are the most physically, mentally, maybe even spiritually stong! they stand out from the rest!
