I am constantly confounded by the low levels of knowledge that so many of my personal training clients have about the effects of alcohol on the mobilising of fat stores.
Sure, most people are aware that alcohol isn't "good" (how vague is that!) and that beer will add calories. But because you can drink vodka on the Atkins diet i have heard some conject that it can't be such a bad thing. I beg to differ.
Forget the complicated metabolic processes that are screwed up with alcohol cosumption, forget the increased cortisol and estrogen, and even forget the lowered levels of testosterone, and focus on the EMPTY calories. Memory serves that standard vodka is 208 calories per 100ml - a few vodka and slimlines later and you have ingested another totally empty bunch of calories that your body MUST burn before it can even think about shifting back into fat burning mode.
Your take home lesson should always be that alcohol and fat loss do not mix.

One of the most important things that people should think about is that alcohol is not calorie-free. It contains 7 calories per gram, and that’s not including the sugar and other additives. This makes it super easy to pack on extra pounds without realizing it.
