This is an excerpt from a private Q&A London Personal Training Group -
Q: I am not overweight, but would like to reduce my amount of bodyfat especialy around my lower abdomen. Do you recommend taking fat burning capsules such as Thermabol?
A: Thermogenic supplements are OK in moderation for some people. Others have a hard time with them and often come crashing down so as rule I only like them in a very limited capacity, ie more as a preworkout energizer than a two/three times daily fat burner.
Boring as this may be, the NUMBER ONE fat burning product is good quality fish oil. I just this second did some numbers for a client of mine -this is an individual who has been training for years, but in 6 weeks with me he lost 14lbs of fat and gained 1o lbs of muscle, improving his body fat % by over 7%! Yes, I do have the photos...Some idiots will tell you that its impossible to gain muscle and lose fat at the same time. Its tough, but by no means impossible. I apportion a reasonable degree of credit for his success to large quantities of omega 3 intake.

fish oil / omega 3 for fat burning
Stuart,
Thanks for the kind words, it s always nice to be appreciated.
Its very difficult to give a precise answer to your question without examining you first. Some of my personal training clients get by on 10gms of Omega 3s taken throughout the day (with food ideally as it blunts the insulin respsonse) other than post workout, whereas other more insulin resistant / carb intolerant types get their best results on very high dosages of up to 30gms per day! Its not uncommon to just add high doses of fish oil to an otherwise sedentary, obese client and see them drop 7lbs in 2/3 weeks.
As for the type, I prefer the product put out by Charles Poliquin / Poliquin Performance as I know that it is of the highest quality and not full of heavy metals like so many of the inferior store bought fish oils we have tested.
Hope that helps.

CLA and Fat Burning
CLA is a bio active lipid that has some nice anti catabolic properties.
For my personal training clients I don't rate it anywhere near as highly as I do Omega 3s for fat burning, but for overall health and if you and its anti catabolic properties you could add 4-6gms per day to our diet.
I did read something the other day from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition that showed that CLAs burned off body fat whilst you slept. The kicker being that the fat burned wasn't recently ingested dietary fat, but actual visceral and subcutaneous body fat. Its only a small thing in truth, but when you are dealing with the accumulation of % points to get into top condition it is definitely worth thinking about.

im in desperate need of some good knowledgeable advice
Dear London....
im 38 yr old female, i had a motorbike accident last year in june and once i had a knee op in October i realised a stone had crept on really without me noticing too much (probably from the beginning of the year or the year before asi dont weigh myself as a rule). I joined the gym two weeks after op and i have been going ever since....for approx 3 months now i have been focusing on my diet and my training. i do 3-4 sessions a week of both weights and cardio and i currently eat around 1500 calories a day burning around 2000 to 3000 calories a week, yet im not losing weight. i have added muscle i know and my shape has changed a little for the better however i still have at least a stone and a bit of lard. Im 5ft 7 and i weigh 12stone 5 but i am a perfect size 12 in clothes. My personal trainer refers to me as "amazonian"..This is not the size im meant to be and i cant seem to get rid of the covering of fat i have around my body which is pretty even all over but my limbs and bum are the leanest. i write a food diary and my trainer just thinks i must be cheating on my food and im trying to reassure him im really not (IM NOT!!)....Im getting very fit but very fed up as i want to lost this weight as it is a real issue for me...I have always managed to lose weight if and when i needed to previously (never needed more than half a stone) and am happiest around 11 stone to 11 stone 4.
I would happily travel to london to meet someone like yourself if i thought it would help me at all. I just dont know what im doing wrong...please help.
Hi Zoe, I appreciate your
Hi Zoe,
I appreciate your frustration - its something I regularly see with people, especially women, who are referred to me after trying numerous routes to fat loss and always failing.
Its very tough to diagnose your issues without examining you, but the chances are that you would greatly benefit from some form of hormonal modulation via a change in your diet and the intelligent application of herbal supplements. I don't really want to tout for business on this website, so if you want to contact me please do feel free to do so via my main website at www.UPFitness.co.uk
