Jan 6 I missed the last 3 steps going downstairs and broke both ankles. The right was a minor fracture, and was put in a air splint. The left was broken in 3 places and a torn ligament. I had surgery to repair the break, which resulted in 8 pins and one plate. I was in the hospital 4 days with a half plaster cast on the left ankle; no weight and walking with a walker. Ten days later I was put in a air boot up to my knee with still no weight allowed on the ankle. It is now April 15 and I have been instructed 2 weeks ago to put some pressure on the left ankle. I have surgery on April 17 to remove the large pin and then physical therapy after that. Since I have started putting weight on the foot, I have more pain now than before. Has anyone experienced the pin removal? What should I expect? I have been out on Medical Leave with all of this as I am on my feet a work. How is physical therapy? Any info provided would be great. I am not thrilled with the idea of another surgery, but was told it was necessary.

broken ankle
I slipped on 6 Feb this year and broke both sides of my right ankle and shattered my fibula which was plated, the knukle on the tibia was pinned.I was 6 weeks in plaster then another 6 weeks before I began building up to full weight bearing, during this time I have overdone my joint and it became acutely painfull as opposed to the dull stiff ache before.I rested the ankle for a few weeks and tried again to build up weight on the joint but it became acute again, more rest for 3 weeks and it was begining to feel ok again but it is now acute again.Am I trying to soon, how long should I rest before trying to put weight on again or should I just keep all weight off for a few months .The joint has good movement, the bones are all healed but the joint doesnt seem keen on taking weight now,as opposed to before I overdone it.is this common, any ideas!
