A day, or days, in the life of a middle aged triathlete (that may be a bit of a stretch...;-) )

Okay...first effort at a blog on this site. Not had much luck in the past with other sites. I guess I am too old for myspace, too ugly for facebook, and too lacking in friends for any of the other sites!

A day/days in the life of me:

19-2-2008....

up at 0600 to get ready to drive up north for a meeting. Stopped at a rest area for my 'high protein' brekkie of sausage, bacon, egg and coffee (it was 7'ish after all!!!). Then drove the 125 miles to the meeting, sat thru it for 5 hours and drove home. Had as healthy a lunch as could be considering it was provided and they usually don't cater to healthy options!

1730...at the gym, did hard interval training on the treadmill, working on hills to build up leg strength and stamina, then to some leg strength work (squats, etc) before torquing my already bad shoulder (trying to get into a machine of all things!!).

1845...Dinner, two egg and cheese omelete. Got to love this high protein stuff. Only downside is that it makes me VERY grumpy.

2200...bed

20-2-2008...

up at 0730, bit of a lay in today! No real breakfast, couldn't be bothered.

0900...physio on shoulder at hospital...got a nice elastic band to play with!

Spent the rest of the day working from home.

The plan for the rest of the day is....

1800/1900....indoor cycle for 45 mins then run for 3 miles.

Need to get back into training after stomach bug I had a week and a half ago!

Happy training...update tomorrow.

Sounds great and sorry to

Sounds great and sorry to hear about your shoulder, i had a similar problem. This means your training has to change but it isn't an excuse to stop permanently.

Perform front squat
Do horizontal cable rows
Perform chin ups
Eliminate all pressing besides push ups and iso push ups.
Perform scapular mobility and activation drills.
Strengthen your core.

Look at your posture carefully. There are other things you can do but this is just at the top of my head.

Good luck

Building Up Muscle Strength After Knee Injury

Yeah, I've been a runner & injured my knees because I didn't really understand the importance of warming up properly....you know young, healthy, strong.... can live forever!!!! Well the pain & injury sure taught me.

Last year the orthopedic specialist told me I was heading for a life in a wheelchair if I didn't manage my health better. I had to use these therapy garment knee supports which were pretty amazing because they are compressive which felt good straight away but they also warm the joints so the pain & stiffness is relieved. If you're interested in finding out more you can see www.thermomedic.com It gives some useful info on arthritis, carpal tunnel, sporting injuries and other health problems that is really helpful in understanding your problem. I also found a good article about the relationship between arthritis & playing sport which elite atheletes might want to read www.farinfraredmedical.org I hope this helps you because I know how injury & pain can really ruin your life & make you mad as hell!
