Hello sports fans,

Just over 2 weeks to go until the Great North Run and 3 weeks to the Gorilla run, oh yes and then the Run to the Beat half marathon the next day.

What a nice man my trainer is. After my eye op last Thursday he let me have 3 days off. I got together with some of the younger gorillas in our tribe and we played these games where you start with full bottles and cans of alcohol and see how many you can empty down yourself in 12 hours. I can't remember if anyone won but everyone was, in the words of Pink Floyd "Comfortably Numb".

While we were in the bar, Michael Johnson came in wearing jeans and his famous golden running shoes. The barman said that he wasn't allowed in wearing jeans. Mr Johnson asked the barman if he knew who he was and the barman said of course he did, so it shouldn't take him long to run home and change.

Anyway, now it's back to gentle training until my eye heals itself. Monday an 8 mile power-walk and then 20 miles a day on a bike for the rest of the week. Just one more week of this lazing around, as the trainer calls it, then back to running again. I have my doubts that 10 days is going to be long enough to prepare for two half marathons and a 7k run, all in the space of 1 week, but I'm not supposed to be the one with the brains. Anyway, my trainer isn't that bright himself. The other day he was shouting at me from the opposite side of a busy road. He asked me how to get to the other side, so I told him, you are already there.

I'm starting to get a bit nervous now in case I make a complete fool of myself in the Gorilla run. The last race I was in I was doing better than normal and was only second from last. Feeling a bit cocky I asked the bloke behind me how it felt to be last, so he dropped out. Next time I keep my big mouth shut.
