Sports Medicine Foot and Ankle Rehabilitation

This article was a long time coming. After writing and then scraping and re-writing it is a good way to describe this. As a basketball player by sport I have suffered with some ankle sprains in the past so this article was inevitable. Another thing was that ticked me off was poor rehabilitation patterns in athletes.

I tried to bring some points for discussion, long term effects if untreated, common postural defects, footwear and so on. If you have tight/immobile and painful ankles this is a great read.

Foot & Ankle Rehabilitation

I suffered from painful swollen ankles and aching feet, particularly when playing sport or at work. I have finally found great relief using thermomedic therapy socks which, unlike ankle braces, can be worn under your normal shoes. They use bio-ceramic fibre technology to improve circulation, reduce perspiration and eliminate foot odour.

My father has found thermomedic socks have relieved the neuropathic pain in his feet and now enjoys improved mobility.

I really hope this info helps you feel better because I know how pain can really ruin your life style.

1.5 mile run

Hello

I'm currently in the process of joining the British services.

I need to take a 1.5 mile fitness test which needs to be completed in 10 minutes or less. I would really like to do this in 9 minutes 10 - 30 seconds.

I have taken the test once and failed because it felt like I couldn't breathe and my legs just couldn't carry me any further.

What should I do for preparation?

Thanks.
Jamie

This is a really general

This is a really general question but look at your life style. If you are eating junk and not regularly exercising you know where to start. Try to loose some weight if you are over weight, try performing HIIT by running/sprinting and or strong man conditioning. If you cant run/sprint until you can't, rest and repeat several times.

Start eating breakfast and look at your diet. Run 2-3 times a week before the final test, rest 3 days, allow full recovery. You can also try to drink coffee and energy drinks to help you out. Suck it in, you will only feel pain for the 10 minutes after that you'r home and clear.

I have a question about the

I have a question about the pain I still feel in my ankle after a small accident. I can step right on my leg but when the weather changes I feel a persistent pain that sometimes keeps me awake at night. I tried the hot patches and menthol creams. Nothing works.

Reduce the risk

After you sprain your ankle once, you automatically increase the chance of re-injury. As an athlete your main goal is to try and reduce this risk. This can be easily achieved if you apply the correct post-injury treatment. You need to closely follow a balanced rehabilitation program, to increase the range of motion and the lost strength in the joint.
