Strength training for football (or soccer for our American cousins) used to be up their on a par with the post match recovery / regeneration drink to replenish a professional footballer's lost glycogen reserves and depleted amino acid stores...in other words it didn't exist at all!

English soccer training used to be all about a few laps around the park and then the post match pint, and although it has advanced incredibly in the last decade, training and nutritional regimes in top Premiership clubs still bear no legitimate comparison to anything that goes on in their equivalent NBA, NHL, or NFL counterparts.
