juice plus problems
Juice plus problems: "More energy from Juice Plus? It didn't work for me" ...Antony Haynes .Institute of Optimum Nutrition .London
As a nutrition consultant, I was intrigued by all the anecdotal evidence to support the use of Juice Plus, a supplement in powdered form of fruit and vegetable juices distributed by NSA. So I decided to see what all the fuss was about and try it myself. By relating my experience I hope you can learn something about Juice Plus the easy way.
The NSA distributor indicated to me that I should have taken up to six of each per day, not two, which would have cost £90 per month. Furthermore, he did say that, of course Juice Plus would only contain what fruit and vegetables contain and therefore would not provide all the nutrients that were found in my regular supplements.
I sought after independent studies of the contents of Juice Plus, but there was only one independent laboratory analysis which I got from an NSA distributor. If there are others I would welcome sight of them.
The study compares two Juice Plus capsules with an 8oz portion of different fruit and vegetable juices. The 'Orchard Blend' Juice Plus capsule, based on fruit, was found to have three times as much vitamin C and over twice as much beta-carotene as a popular brand of orange juice. Freshly squeezed juice has fractionally more beta-carotene than Juice Plus (107%) and a fraction of the vitamin C content (9%). Popular brands of vegetable juices tended to have more vitamin C than Juice Plus 'Garden Blend' but less beta-carotene. Freshly squeezed vegetable juice had more beta-carotene (139%) and a fraction of the vitamin C content (9%) compared to Juice Plus. Juice Plus is comparable in fibre content to normal juice and substantially lower in calories, sodium and sugar.
From this analysis, I can only conclude that Juice Plus provides reasonable sources of antioxidant nutrients. Antioxidants have been found to be important to athletes for both protecting against exercise-induced muscle damage, and to help support their immune systems which may be compromised by training intensity. Whether Juice Plus is better or worse in effect, or cost-effectiveness, than other supplements has not, to my knowledge, been studied.

Are you kidding me with
Are you kidding me with this? What kind of research ends in two weeks? And what kind of legitimacy do you get when you say "I felt tired." Please there are a million things that could have caused that, including your imagination. I can't believe you would write something like this after trying the product for two measly weeks. Some great scientist you are. And, sorry, but trying the product doesn't exactly qualify as research.
Not only that, but you also go on and on about the minerals in juice versus Juice Plus+ but you totally forget to bother with the bioavailability part. It doesn't matter if something is fortified with iron if the iron isn't bioavailable it may as well have none because your body can't use it. Milk has LOTS of calcium, and broccoli doesn't have much, but your body can actually benefit a great deal more from and absorb a great deal more calcium from broccoli than from milk, because the calcium in broccoli works synergistically with all the other minerals in broccoli to benefit your body much more. And since when are calories, sugar, and sodium good for you, by the way??
And I highly doubt anyone at NSA told you to take four caplets of fruits and 4 caplets of veges per day, because that is not the dosage of Juice Plus+.
Nice try, trying to degrade a great product, but your science is, well, not science at all. If NSA has one unbiased study (they actually have 12, if memory serves me, and that doesn't count the ones for kids) it is one more than you have to disprove its effectiveness.
Clearly you just wrote this as a way to dis the product for some selfish reason, not to actually inform the public.
Very Unprofessional!
I agree with Smork's reply. Antony, you have made a fool of yourself, as well as your profession, (nutritional consultant?), as well your workplace (Optimum Nutrition?). The so-called "Study" you conducted failed to be legitimate, unbiased, controlled, fair, scientific, or qualitative / quantitatively measurable in any real sense.
You mentioned the "anecdotal" evidence for JuicePlus, whereas it is actually one of the few whole-food supplements (concentrates) that has several 3rd party (through recognized universities and medical journals), legitimate scientific studies to verify it's bioavailability, it's measurable health benefits, it's nutritive value (maintained via microfiltration processing), and other important research to determine it's significance in a healthy diet. Have you read any of this research? It's available to you.
Also, the fact that you eliminated all of your other "supplements" before starting JuicePlus would clearly make a difference in your initial energy levels. Did you take several weeks without ANY supplements first, to see how you 'felt' (since that is what you based it's efficacy on)? In addition, it can take several weeks (over 2 months) for the cells in your body to regenerate and for any significant health changes to manifest from changes in diet. How long was your, um, 'study'?
I certainly hope your article doesn't negatively affect Optimum Nutrition's reputation. You are lucky a lawyer for JuicePlus hasn't read your article... bashing other nutrition companies (without grounds) is opening you up to serious trouble.
Go back to your mega-vitamins until you learn how to conduct unbiased research.
WTF???????????????????
Of course you felt less energy you quit everything you took everyday for over 4 years of course you had no energy. Your body was needing the regiment that it was use to for all those years. You can't quit cold turkey and think it won't effect you.I am far from being a doctor or a scientist it just common sense. Of course you felt better once you went back to your over 4 year regiment. Try adding Juice Plus to your regiment its really not for energy but for filling the fruit and veg. void that is hard to fill with our busy lifestyles we all live to survive in the 21st Century. Its hard to eat healthy with scheduling especially the daily recommended amount of fruits and veg..
problem with juice plus+
It sounds like your body was going through detox! That is a good thing that why you were feeling poorly. Its to bad you stoped takeing juice plus+. That tells me you really needed it!!! Fruits and Veggies tag the toxins and remove them from your body.
juice plus
The fact that Juice Plus is a MLM automatically destroys any credibility a distributer may have. You now have a vested interest in the product and whether or not you can convince anyone to use/purchase it. If it was the intention of Juice Plus to make this Miracle product available to everyone you could find it in stores. This is clearly not the intention of any MLM. The intention is to make money and to convince willing distributors they can profit from selling their product for them. Ergo lack of credibility. It is juice thats been processed and altered from its original form. It simply cannot take the place of eating well, in fact it cannot come close. It is a way for NSA to make money just as they have done for decades, by convincing those who are looking for easy money and an alernative to responsible eating, that this is their answer.
Juice Plus
I am healthy and take great care of my self and have a normal well rounded supplement program. I got rooked into trying the juice plus and this is only a personal opinion, but it has almost 0 nutrient content. If you compair a multivitamin/multimineral supplement to juice plus you will quickly learn how empty it is of what your body
really needs.
You see how you have waisted your large amount of money to soon.
the orhard blend does have vitamin A,C small amount of E,small amount of folate.
The Garden Blend has Vitamin A,C,Small amount of E and small amount of folate.
That is just about it! So it is not detox you go thru it is lack of nutrients. Where is the Vitamin D,K,B1,B2,Riboflavin,Nicin,,B6,Folic Acid,b12,biotin,calicum,iron,zinc,magmesium,zinc,selenium,copper,cromium?
Let me tell you it is in your over the counter $8.00 price range. Not $240.00
So buyer beware. It makes you feel delpeted of all energy etc. Becouse your body is being starved of what it needs.I will never beileve anything i hear about that compost again! They make $ $40.00 Off of each 2 month supply they get you for. So do not try to make people look bad for telling the truth about how lousy they feel the product is!
Juice Plus is an amazing product
I find that with every product you have your people that love it and those that hate it.
To begin with Juiceplus+ has independant research past/ and currently being done by universities internationally.
Yale University USA, Vanderbuilt University school of medicine, University of south carolina, University of Maryland school of medicine, King's college in Londo UK to name a few. Drs of Medical science such as DR. David Katz MD, Mitra Ray PHD and Dr William Sears MD all state that there are medical and health benifits to taking juice plus.
The only things that NSA juice plus CLAIMS is that is delivers Key antioxidants and other phytonutrients to the body, it reduces oxidative stress, it positivley impacts markers of systemic inflamtion, helps support a healthy immune system and protects DNA and positively impacts several important indicators dealing with cardiovascular wellness.
Yes it is a MLM company. But that does not mean that it is a bad product or a marketing scheme. I am sure most of you have purchaced from pampered chef, tastefully simple, lea sophia, avon or any other number of "mlm" companies. Personally I wouldn't want to buy juiceplus from the shelf in a store, I a. wouldn't get all the important literature which includes what research is being done and where and B. may walk right by a product that would be perfect for me by having it blend in with everythign else.
Contrary to what has been posted on here juiceplus is not that expensive a product, no more expensive than vitamin world or GNC vitamin supply. It really only cost about 2$ or so a day which now a days is way cheaper than a cup of coffee. and about 6$ cheaper than a pack of ciggaretts.( at least in Northeast USA).
Is juiceplus some cure all ? absolutely not! but neither would I expect any vitamin supplement to be. what it has been found to do is get the people who take it more of the nutrients from what is found in fruits and veggies. by the way it is recommended that the average person consume 7-14 servings of fruits and veggies a day. this product simply helps make that up.
I take juiceplus. I am passionate about this product. But I will tell you I am an RDH ( registered dental hygienist) and research and health are very improtant to me. I researched this product and came accross this product 3 times in a 2 year period before I decided it was the right product for me. and it is true that some people experience side effects. not everyone's body is the same and this product does provide 17 different fruits and veggies- some of wich the person taking may never have had before and may be allergic to or may have an excess amout from another source which could cause a side effect. That can happen with any vitamin.
I am currently taking this in place of all other vitamins. I was taking a prenatal vit, I was not preg.but my dr. told me that it could take up to a year to just get used to taking prenatals and guess what... they made me so sick there is no way I could possibly take them because my body was loosing more than it was gaining. even with food of all kinds and even after trying the normal stomach coaters so it would pass through without issues. I am not taking othe vitamins because I simply always have had trouble taking vitamins. So far with this product ( i take the chewables) i have not had that issue. (note that the chewables you take 4 or each per day)
I have been taking it for about 2 mos. I have noticed improvements both in my energy levels, my quality of sleep, and most importantly it has helped me make better food choices.I also noticed more energy and stability when dancing i do ballet and jazz and pointe and i am able to do yago longer. I am also now eating more fruits and veggies, which the studdies being done at yale university suggest that taking this product helps to rewire what your body wants for food. aka you actually want to eat more fruits and veggies and you like th way they taste.i also choose now whole grains instead of white bleached products. I also havent gotten sick with anything sicnce taking it and I have previously gotten sick , cold, flu, and any other number of bacterial infections this time of year every year my whole life.
I hope this helps all of you who may be interested in this product. I do recommend you visit the products website because there you will find links to all the universities doing research and you can investigate the research further yourself.
Additionally the following reputable scientific journals have published peer reviewed articles on Juiceplus+
