I'm only answering from a personal prespective. I've found that by staying fit and continuing to train I have been able to maintain muscle strength with little loss. However the older you get the more knocks and injuries you pick up along the way, especially if playing contact sports), so not sure if it takes me longer to recover because of age or because of numerous little injuries picked up over the years, but it does take me longer. Additionally I have been thinking that when young your general life worries and commitments tend to be less then when your older. Things like a family, mortgage etc do have an impact on you both physically and mentally.

Thanks Alan for that

Keep training as best you can to the routine you use. I have found that my overall weights litfed have gone down, but the "mature muscle" that you have is great as it can be very adaptable. When needed you can do outstanding things. The down side is that injuries do tend to occur a little more often, but as your body is active then the recovery times are no longer than when I was younger. I think variety is also important try new things, I have taken up Yoga which is brilliant. I have also been cycling for a huge number of years and I do get strange looks in the organised cycle classes that I do through the winter from the younger element, who gasp and complain at the end of the session and look at me when I sit on the bike and smile at them having thoroughly enjoyed the session. I suppose to sum it up, do what you enjoy for as long as you enjoy it, change your routine, try new things and have fun.....

Now i play for fun my fitness has remained pretty good What has gone is quickness and reaction time When im playing against younger players i might be as fit or overall even fitter but my reaction time against someone dribbling for example or my quickness over 2/3 meters is no longer there. If anyone has any ideas how can improve my reaction /quickness (that works I'd be interested in hearing.
