2 Great ways to increase your speed in the 800m distance. 1) Running the ladder from 200m, 400m, 800m, mile, 800m, 400m, 200m, about 2 or 3 times a week at a resonably medium/fast pace will help with speed. 2) Seeing that you are already disatnce running, very beneficial, when you go out on your distant runs in your mornings or afternoon (or both) pick up the speed and gradually pace it to a sprint towards the end of your distant run, this will help your speed b/c you are tired and your muscles are weak the burn in your legs will give you a better burst. A few pointers for the race also that i've learned on my own turf....1) Do not get boxed in 2) Try to stay close with the first man, if you want first place 3) My secret is to try my hardest to jump infront of the man ahead of me before a curve b/c you can run your pace and not his and if he tries to pass you on a curve, he's gonna lose alot of energy trying to pass you 4) Don't pass on a curve, less the kid is so slow that it causes barely any effort to pass.

Depends what age you are. Why are you doing this at the end of track season? ?
Try weekly interval session of 2x300m. then 1x200m. x 2, at 800m. pace, slowly building up to x 6 with recoveries of 30 sec. reducing by 10 sec. per week &/or increasing pace. 10 min. rest between each set.

Regards,

Max. 8)

PS. Keep up the distance work, join a club & do not neglect speed. )
