In the article titled "Intense Training Versus Volume Training: A new German study confirms that increasing intensity works better than upswings in volume." found on this site it promotes intensity over increases in mileage. In this study the increased mileage group in my opinion did not accurately represent the training of a high mileage group. In my expeirences in distance running high mileage is supposed to create fatigue in runners and decrease performance in the short term. After this period the training yields benefits and after tapering these benefits are compounded. I do not necessarily believe that high mileage training works better than a training program developed around intensity. However, I do want to know if these ideas were implemeneted in real training programs how they would influence performance. If anyone knows of any conclusive about the advantages of these training philosophies that factored in the points I discussed could you direct me to that source. Thanks.

Steve
