I recently took a PT test for a government job and was unable to get the 2 mile run in time. I was winded and dehydrated after 3 laps around the track, even though I have been running for about 4 months on a treadmill. I can only assume that my problem was doing a 120 yard shuttle run, push-ups, sit-ups and pull-ups before running the 2miles with little time for rest. The problem is I have to re-test in 3 weeks giving me little time to improve. I have been running everday and drinking lots of water. I have discovered that increasing my time also increases my shin splints and tendonitus........ Please Help!!!!!!

hey, well you posted quite awhile ago...and have apprently already retested so i hope u did better this time. But your shin splint problem probley has ALOT to do wiht the type of shoe and support u have on ur feet. I use to get them and let me tell u they suck :) hah so perhaps try another shoe and see if it goes away. Mine went away in jsut over a week

Greg,
Treadmill running is no substitute for the real thing, if it was then no one would waste time training on track, road, sand, trails, hills or X/country. Unless you set it to run up an incline then it is the same as running downhill, too easy. o
Did you warm up enough?; do you vary the surfaces that you run on?; are you training 4-5 days a week?; what mileage?; what experience?. ?
In order to pass the 2 mile test you should be doing a fair bit of distance & speed work & vary your sessions. )
Cross training (i.e. cycling, rowing or swimming) is excellent rest from pounding out the miles & your body reponds better to a variety of training methods. roll
Do you keep a training diary? D
