I'm a bit curious to know what is the basic rules of sparring in TKD if you happen to compeate against a person in a tournement.
I compeated in one and was told we were not allowed to use punches or kick's to the head. When I went onto some sites most American competitor's were allowed punche's and kick's to the head, what confusess me is when it comes to sparring in the olympic's what would a competitor from the UK do?

The rules applied to taekwondo can vary, it depends if you abide by the WTF rules or ITF. In my latest compitition in bristol the rules were that there was no punching, except side punch, and kicking was only to the front of the body; this was is tang soo do.
For the olympics: one point for successful attack to the area covered by trunk protector. Two points for successful attack on the opponents face. One extra point if the opponent gets knocked down and the main referee counts. Deduction of points.
