Hey all

I am wondering about doing some work experience in sports science (any aspect but preferably exersice physiology or drugs in sport related). i am Human movement and physiology grad who has been kicking around london working in what ever science or sport based job that has presented itself (hospital labs, fitness instructor, childrens sports coach) and im now eager to get some field based sports science experience.

If anyone has any advice on how to go about this i would be very grateful. I have been in contact with bases and sport england as well as uk sport but have had no joy ( i am willing to travel about the country if an oppertunity presents itself.

thanks

Its damn hard to get any kind of work experince with sports institutes in the UK. I was lucky enough to start working for the English Institute of Sport this year and when speaking to coaches they say that each institute gets about 100 applicants a week (or month?) offering their services for free.

I would try looking at the univeristy institutes. Some of them have research assistants, interns, applied positions available. Once aboard, you can get commercial applied work with sports organisations.

I know the EIS tend not to have full time physiologists, biomechanists and look to unis to carry out the testing. Great experince if you can get it. Look at www.prospects.ac.uk This gives you listings of all types of jobs within further education institutes.

To work in the UK as an applied practitioner in physiology or biomech with athletes requires accreditation to be taken seriously and be registered for coaches etc to know who you are. You need BASES accreditation which takes around 3 years. BASES website can help you out
