what does RM mean?

i am reading the new book coaching young athletes and in the section about strenght training there is refernce to RM lifting what does this stand for?

RM = Repitition Maximum. This is the maximum weight you can lift for a given number of repititions. So if you lifted 100kg once, this would be 1RM. If you lifted 80kg 5 times, this would be 5RM and so on. You will often see RM with a percentage. This indicates the percent of that RM to work with. Using the example of 100kg equalling 100kg, 5 x 80% 1RM = 5 reps at 80kg. You will work that the RM is 100% and then work out what weight the given percentage is.

I think www.exrx.net has a section on helping you out on what weight each percentage is for every RM.
