Hi l am a 42 y/o female. l have been sprinting in master comps but l'm having trouble with going lactic in the legs approx 5-10m from the finish in both 100 & 200 races. My legs feel out of control till l back off a bit which obviously doesn't help with the final result. l have been following a combined 100/200/ program for the past 16 months on and off depending on competition dates. l am quite fast out of the blocks(in the 100m) and ahead till approx 70 m mark then its down hill from there. l have only taken up sprinting again ( after a 21 year break) 2 years ago so l have a lot to learn. l would appreciate any suggestions thanks jasmin

you shouldnt really be experiencing a build up of lactic in the 100m. Lactic Acid is a by product of the anaerobic energy system, which should not come into play significantly enough in events of such a short nature.
100m is an immediate energy event, and therefore will get most of its energy from the creatine phosphate energy system.
Maybe you are confusing this build up with something else.
Have you considered supplementing with creatine? This will give you a little more immediate energy.
In the 200m the anaerobic system WILL come into play, and will be used as the primary energy system in the 2nd half of the race. Lactic acid will be produced when oxidisation occurs.
I would recommend that you try to train your 'anaerobic threshold' with interval training, so that you become more tolerant of lactic acid, more efficient at breaking it down to glucose and so that you produce less of it.
One good way to do this would be to organise training runs where you are alternating just above and just below your threshold.
